Why create custom causes for Programs?
Creating custom causes is a great way to highlight what kind of impact your Programs have on the community and establish the Program's mission or purpose. Your volunteers can see what causes your Programs are aligned with and match them with their own.
ⓘ So you know:
- Your site comes with 16 default causes.
- You can create custom causes if you don't want to use the default ones.
- If you'd like more than the 16 default causes, please email us so that we can discuss changing the number of allowed causes on your site!
What are custom causes?
Custom causes are the causes you create and align with your Programs. We provide 16 default causes with your site that you can choose from, or you can create your own. Causes depend on your Programs and how they'll cater to your community. For example:
- If you have a Program that manages a food pantry in your community, you might want to include Basic Needs as one of your causes.
- Basic Needs is one of the default causes that you can choose from:
- Maybe you have a Program that manages an after-school tutoring Program—you can create a custom cause for Tutoring.
- Let's say you have a program that offers assistance to animal shelters—you can create a custom case for Animal Welfare.
- These are just a few examples of what you can do with custom causes. Feel free to make them fit your organization's needs!
✏️ Quick tip: Please contact us if you want more or less than 16 causes.

FAQ
- Can I add colors and icons to default causes?
- You can add colors and icons to custom causes with the color selector and Pick an Icon button, but not the default ones; however, there is a workaround. - Can I upload icons?
- While you can't upload your icons, you can always make a suggestion in our Product Suggestions forum for what icons you'd like to have added!
- What happens if I don't add my colors and icons to custom causes?
- If you don't add any colors or icons, then the custom causes will appear blank like so:
- How do I get rid of causes?
- You can remove causes by deselecting them and adding your own.
- If you don't want them on your site at all, just reach out to our Customer Experience team and we'll be happy to help!
