Your organization is busy creating amazing opportunities for your programs so that volunteers can get involved and start responding. In this article, we're going to cover custom Causes that you can create to align with your programs. We'll go over:

Why create custom causes for programs?

Creating custom causes is a great way to highlight what kind of impact your programs have on the community and establish the program's mission or purpose. Your volunteers can see what causes your programs are aligned with and match them with their own.

So you know:

  • Your site comes with 16 default causes.
  • You can create your own custom causes if you don't want to use the default ones.
  • If you'd like more than the 16 default causes, please email us so that we can discuss changing the number of allowed causes on your site!

What are custom causes?

Custom causes are the causes you create and align with your programs. We provide 16 default causes with your site that you can choose from, or you can create your own. Causes really depend on your programs and how they'll cater to your community. For example:

  • If you have a program that manages a food pantry in your community, you might want to include Basic Needs as one of your causes.
    • Basic Needs is one of the default causes that you can choose from:

  • Maybe you have a program that manages an after-school tutoring program—you can create a custom cause for Tutoring
  • Let's say you have a program that offers assistance to animal shelters—you can create a custom case for Animal Welfare
    • These are just a few examples of what you can do with custom causes. Feel free to make them fit your organization's needs!

Note: If you want more or less than 16 causes on your site, please contact our Customer Experience team for help.

How to create your own custom causes

To create your own custom causes:

1. Go to Settings from your site manager panel.

2. Click Causes

3. Deselect any of the causes you don't want to include from the default causes list by clicking on the check box beside it under the Active column.

4. In the empty field beside the Add New Cause button, type the new custom cause you'd like to add.

5. Select Add New Cause.

6. Now, you're ready to customize your custom causes!

  • You can change the colors if you know the hex code for the color you want to use or you can select a color:

  • You can also select an icon for your cause by selecting the Pick an Icon button which will open a pop-up for you to choose from:

  • Can I add my own colors and icons to default causes?
    • You can add colors and icons to custom causes with the color selector and Pick an Icon button, but not the default ones; however, there is a workaround. You can deselect one of the default causes and create a new one with the same title. Once you've added it, you can then go through the process of selecting a different color and icon for it.
  • Can I upload my own icons?
    • While you can't upload your own icons, you can always make a suggestion in our Product Suggestions forum for what icons you'd like to have added!
  • What happens if I don't add my colors and icons to custom causes?
    • If you don't add any colors or icons, then the custom causes will appear blank like so:

  • How do I get rid of causes?
    • You can remove causes by deselecting them and adding your own.
    • If you don't want them on your site at all, just reach out to our Customer Experience team and we'll be happy to help!
